Our new book explains the dangers lurking ahead - and what we can do about it.
Let me explain.
Economist Dan Mitchell and I have fretted over the direction of our economy for a long time. The problem has gotten progressively worse since the end of the Clinton administration and the budget surplus that was left behind. Excessive growth in government and out-of-control spending was never the vision of the country’s Founders, yet that is the main reason the country faces huge deficits as far as the eye can see.
The Founders believed that if the federal government grew too large and powerful it would lead to tyranny and loss of liberty. They were right. Today, more than 250 years later, we see the massive government and unaccountable bureaucracy which has become our ‘master’ in so many ways, instead of our ‘servant', as was clearly intended.
The folks on Main Street, the voting public, need to understand what is happening today and where the current course is taking us. So Dan and I collaborated to write a book for laymen, concerned voters who do not have the time to study the real world of economics today. We explain what is really happening and Main Street America – basically each of us, the voting public – need to understand where we are headed and what it means to them and the future of this great nation.
We have tried our best to keep it ‘understandable’ for those who haven't taken economics, or forgot what they learned long ago in Econ 101. And for those that do remember the basics, the deluge of data today is overwhelming. We have tried to cut through the hot air and PBS (political bull s**t) you hear today and give you the unadulterated facts.
The book is divided into 3 main sections:
The United States is Bankrupt – a review of the country’s current financial situation and projections for the future. We outline why the country is headed for bankruptcy and our prediction for what would happen if the United States could no longer sell our debt as the Ponzi scheme collapses.
Real-World Fiscal Lessons – an examination of historical results in the real world – successes and failures – and the policies that led to these results. We offer a summary of the best policies to follow for long-term growth and a rising standard-of-living for all Americans.
What the Hell can we do about it? – a review of the major problems that have led to the big spending and huge deficits, with suggestions on how to fix today’s issues and ensure a financially secure tomorrow.
Our objective is to educate and inform Main Street America, while building public support for the difficult political decisions necessary to get our country on the road to prosperity. We can only ‘move the needle’ in Washington, D.C. if Americans understand and support meaningful change.
BOTTOM LINE
Politicians will not make the difficult decisions without public support. They want to keep their job, and will not act unless they know the voters are behind them. They must act now, as the status quo will lead us ever closer to disaster. We cannot continue to ‘kick the can down the road’ if we want the country to survive for our benefit and for our kids, grandkids, and future generations.
We inherited a country that works, and shame on us if we leave to future generations a country that is bankrupt.
Abraham Lincoln said it best, ‘with public support, anything is possible’.
The book - The Greatest Ponzi Scheme on Earth - will be published on March 19, 2024. It is available for pre-order on our website, or Amazon, or Simon and Schuster, or other popular booksellers.
